Molenvliet was the center of luxury and grandiose of Batavia . Historian Hendrik E. Niemeijer in his book, Batavia: Colonial Society in 17th Century, wrote that whenever Batavia residents wanted to go on holiday outside the city’s walls, they usually rented a horse-drawn carriage and took a mid-trip break at a cafe located in the corner of nieuwe weg (new road) around Molenvliet. This tour will trace down the remaining glory of Molenvliet’s past behind the glitz and glamour of Jakarta’s modernization, starting from Harmoni to Santa Maria Museum, Sriwijaya Hotel (formerly Cavadino Hotel) and the Ragusa Italian Ice Cream parlor. Meeting point will be at Juanda Station, Central Jakarta.
