Welcome to Maduro SG, a listening lounge and bar devoted to preserving the virtuosity of the classics. Fashioned after owner Mr. P’s storied musical past and present, #TiaraFridayClub is a weekly live music night that pays homage to Tiara Supper Club, the iconic jewel of the Shangri-La in the 80’s where Mr. P performed at the peak of his career. In the spirit of saving the best for last, each evening will see a star-studded line-up of Singapore’s top chanteuses and crooners perform alongside their musician counterparts.
Enters #VOXPOPULI, a series of nights—then known as Vox Series—first created by veteran pianist Mario Serio at Singjazz in 2014. Originally created to develop and showcase Singapore’s finest jazz vocalists in an intimate, pared-down duo setting, the new VOX POPULI series widens its repertoire to showcase “The Voice of The People” in various musical settings since.
Then comes Indigo : Brazilian Electro, Singapore’s first collective to offer authentic Brazilian-samba styled music from the 60’s, samba funk of the 70’s and Brazilian electronica of the future. Comprising seasoned local musicians who each come from a hotchpotch of musical genres and backgrounds themselves, INDIGO—in this instance, Dawn Ho on vocals, Munir Alsagoff on guitars and Mohamed Noor on drums—blends together an infectious repertoire of melodies and rhythms designed to bring about a solid groove with the energy to get people moving.
Now imagine if everyone mentioned above had a Double McSpicy the night before. Expect a melting pot of Brazilian poetry swirling in the beautiful melodies and energetic groove of samba, funk and Brazilian electronica. Or as Mr. P puts it with a suggestive grin: “your Samba, is now served with a side of Sambal.”
