Welcome to Maduro, a listening lounge and bar devoted to preserving the virtuosity of the classics. Every now and then, at the whim of Mr. P and his rolodex of globetrotting musician friends, a special night is added to the roster and Maduro’s stage is set to surprise.
Now this one, we’ve been waiting for a while now. He’s no stranger to our listening lounge. He’s jammed with the kids at #1819Tuesdays, sat in on a number of shows, and even threw a secret show on a school night – all on a whim. “This is just the first time we have to pay him for it”, Mr. P would (half jokingly) say.
Jazz Pianist, composer, producer, vocalist and educator, Jeremy Monteiro has been a professional musician since 1976 with more than 40 solo albums to his name and has performed with James Moody, Ernie Watts, Simon & Garfunkel in great venues all over the world. He has performed at Ronnie Scott’s in London, the Mainstage of the Montreux, EFG London and many other jazz festivals.
For Maduro, Jeremy has chosen to perform not one, but two consecutive nights, each an homage to his favourite ways of playing jazz. For Wednesday, 4 September, Jeremy delves into ‘The Art of Trio’ with his very own – Ben Poh on the upright bass, guest drummer and good friend Hong Chanutr Techatananan serving up beats and himself on the baby grand, where he may sing a tune or two. One of his favourite formats, the piano trio proves to be the most intimate yet challenging format, and truly rewarding when left to the hands of those in the know.
