Welcome to Maduro, a listening lounge and bar devoted to preserving the virtuosity of the classics. Fashioned after Mr. P’s storied musical past and present, the music programme is fiercely classicist by nature, intriguing at times; with two live music nights—1819 Tuesdays and Tiara Friday Club—both cheeky nods to the venues where Mr. P used to perform, and each infused with its own groove and flavour.
Tiara Friday Club is a weekly Friday live music night that pays homage to Tiara Supper Club, the iconic jewel of the Shangri-La in the 80’s where Mr. P performed at the peak of his career. In the spirit of saving the best for last, each evening will see a star-studded line-up of Singapore’s top chanteuses and crooners perform alongside their musician counterparts. For its opening weekend debut, Maduro welcomes the petite jazz songbird with a vintage voice, Melissa Tham.
Known to captivate her audience with her large repertoire and impeccable delivery of songs from the ‘The Great American Songbook’, Melissa’s phrasing and singing styles are often described as mature and effortless. Her debut 2015 album ‘Falling In Love Again’ saw her re-embrace her love for traditional jazz genres such as swing, bossa nova and the quintessential jazz ballad – a move that was welcomed with critical acclaim.
Expect to be serenaded by sultry covers of popular favourites from Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Diana Krall, interjected with her jazz-laced originals, as two of Singapore’s finest first-call musicians—Tan Wei Xiang on the piano, and Soh Wen Ming on percussions—join her on stage.
