Makan Matters with 'The Hungry Hopefuls'

An edible journey through Turkey & the Middle East

From Pixie, Isabelle and Kane –

❝’The Hungry Hopefuls’ is a creation based on serendipitous moments; moments we have with strangers at home and away that always, always, always revolve around food (with a chunky spoonful of cultural and emotional exchanges to dollop).

We’d like to bring you along on our spontaneous journey, venturing through the memories we collected in our chance encounters; sharing something new with someone new; something hearty, fresh, and honest that made us go, “F*** me, that’s good!”

You’ll taste our memories of restaurants in caves, of highway eats, of sneaky fruit stolen from backyards, and of restaurants run by the friendly, local mafia . We want to make you go “ooh” with a little cardamom-laced pilaf and “aah” from a roasted lamb shoulder with spicy zhoug.

This is our journey on your plate—carved, curated and reimagined by three hungry hopefuls. Because in these fast times we want to hold onto something special—and what better way than to eat it with the people you love!❞

ABOUT MAKAN MATTERS

We believe that many a good thing begins around food, drink, friends & good conversation — a simple and enduring combination of ingredients, made unique by what hosts and guests infuse the evening with. Makan Matters is just that: an ongoing programme series that brings in different perspectives on food, whether from chefs, farmers or artists. Events take form as a screening, workshop, performance, or simply a dinner party—all of what matters, that can’t be had in a single course.
