ThisConnect: Threading Worlds is a multi-disciplinary art exhibition that examines the different dimensions of the human connection. The works reflect upon the subtle dynamics and invisible forces that cause a rift between our internal worlds and external expression. The stories of loss, pain and vulnerability too often left unsaid and unheard. There is no time and space for us to figure out what those feelings mean, and much less motivation to connect with those unwanted feelings. But they are there. We are constantly carrying the weight of the past, even if we don’t want to admit it.
Through the documentation of performative, instructional and participatory art, the artists and participants individually and collectively came together to share, discuss, feel and heal. It was through a group effort that safe spaces were created for them to look inwards into their selves, where they could confront their personal truths and difficult emotions. As they returned to their most authentic beings, what was repressed from past traumas and misalignments could be expressed again, allowing healing to take place. The pieces in this exhibition reflect courage, love, and the immense power a person can have when they return to their authenticity and innocence once again.
Featuring 7 bodies of work, the exhibition is happening from 17 December 2020 to 30 January 2020. The exhibition will take place at 1 Neil Road, and will also have satellite exhibitions at Temasek Shophouse, Orchard Library and Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre. This exhibition is supported in part by Temasek Trust’s oscar@sg fund.
