On Sunday, 12th March 2023, PPIS (Singapore Muslim Women’s Association) will be hosting its first in-person International Women’s Day (IWD) Celebration 2023 post-COVID, themed “Embrace Equity: Forging Positive Change”. Organised by PPIS Research and Engagement Department (RED), the celebrations will see over 300 participants, including distinguished guest speakers and local female microbusiness entrepreneurs. Gracing the celebrations will be Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister in Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Ministry of Finance, and National Development.
PPIS’ landmark research on the Aspirations of Muslim Women (MW)1 in Singapore found that MW aspire to be better Muslim women, financially independent, and fit and healthy. However, lack of time and knowledge was cited as a deterrent to achieving the said aspirations. It is thus opportune that this year’s celebration centres on enhancing access to knowledge and resources, thus, paving the way for women to forge positive change.
The event will feature three women experts sharing personal stories and insights to help their fellow women better navigate and overcome challenges in achieving holistic well-being and financial stability in the pursuit of success. To reduce discrepancies in terms of social capital within the wider Muslim community, PPIS continues to recognise and celebrate the various achievements of our local Muslim Women, and expand their narratives of achievement. Hence, for this year’s IWD, we are collaborating with the Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SMCCI) to organise a mini-bazaar showcasing the skills, wares and entrepreneurial spirit of local female micro-businesses.
Registration is free for all.
