Learn about the wonderful world of plankton through the view of a microscope and never look at a pond, lake, or beach the same way again! Phytoplankton and zooplankton are vital parts of aquatic ecosystems and form the basis of aquatic food webs. Understanding the role of plankton in aquatic ecosystems will help in advancing the solutions to problems facing today’s water resources, such as harmful algal blooms, eutrophication, and pollution.
In this talk, biology lecturer Dr Maxine Mowe will bring the audience through the world of plankton, from the very small to the relatively large, and talk about their impacts on freshwater and marine habitats both in Singapore and globally.
