Brittany, 1942. In the middle of the Second World War, Jean, 16 becomes a sailor against the advice of his mother, Perrine. Later, Jean meets Paulette, falls in love and has a child Pierre. Just as happiness sets in, the sea takes Jean away from his family. Determined to thwart fate, Paulette takes Pierre away from the coast so that he will never become a sailor. This novel is a moving tribute to those women to whom the sea has taken everything and yet, never give up.
