American Neo-Pop artist Jan Larsen unveils a new set of his Synchrony Series paintings at NEW YEAR | NEW NORMAL, his first show and charity auction for 2021, and the second in a series of NEW NORMAL exhibitions. For this show, Larsen is collaborating with Extra•Ordinary People, a Singapore-registered charity and Institution of Public Character that supports persons with special needs. Works by Genine Tham, an 18-year-old beneficiary of the charity’s art therapy programme, will be introduced by the exhibition.
Larsen brings a fresh set of Synchrony Series paintings to meditate on the nature of our “new normal.” Begun in 2018, this series of oil paintings are “meditations on modern markets and society – on connectivity, inter-connectivity, and technologically-facilitated exchange,” their tracks and swirls reflecting overlapping life paths, lines of distributed teamwork, and what the artist calls our progress toward being a “fully-distributed society,” pursuing social and environmental progress on multiple tracks at the same time.
Genine’s art offers glimpses of her inner world, motivated solely by self-discovery, inquisitiveness, and play. Each of Genine’s paintings projects new awareness emerging from her artistic process and her use of her hands and feet in creating panoramic 6-feet long landscapes that engage the viewer in their complex textures and details.
Online bidding for the NEW YEAR | NEW NORMAL charity auction opens on 7 February. Bids will close at a live-streaming auction and ‘wrap party’ on 5 March.
Due to prevailing public health regulations and government requirements, viewing is by appointment only by emailing enquiries@janlarsenart.com, and is limited to 10 persons at a time.
