One&Only Desaru Coast is proud to present its next edition of Bonfire Legends on Saturday, 22nd April, welcoming Singapore-based sustainability expert Jacqui Hocking in a spirited evening that discusses climate change, sustainability, social entrepreneurship and what it is like to be a woman in filmmaking.
Exclusive to One&Only Desaru Coast, Bonfire Legends offers the opportunity to connect guests with visionaries and game-changers in various fields, bringing together thought-leaders, tastemakers, professionals, athletes, epicureans, and more, in an evening of inspiring perspectives by the private beachfront bonfire beneath the twinkling night sky.
Jacqui Hocking herself is an accomplished leader in sustainability, spearheading projects such as carbon offsets in the Amazon Rainforest and solar fields in Maasai villages in Tanzania. Selected by the United Nations as one of the ‘50 Amazing Women of Singapore’, Jacqui is also a Forbes 30-Under-30 listee and a three-time TEDx speaker, and has since worked with multinationals, governments, impact investors, and financial institutions all over the world to catalyse positive change and solve global challenges.
Combating climate change was the vision when Jacqui sailed around the world as a documentary filmmaker with the United Nations at the start of her career. Through this voyage, she witnessed the challenges of a global ecosystem and discovered that climate solutions already existed everywhere, yet more visibility is needed in order to scale.
Each small contribution still counts towards the greater whole when considering the impact of being sustainable. According to Jacqui, sustainable habits can be easily integrated into everyday lifestyles, starting with being mindful of new purchases and practicing gratitude for how things are made, from designer to maker, and even the material itself, which helps us realise the extent of our consumption and waste.
