Sinking Cities, Jakarta is a multimedia exhibition by Dutch photographer Cynthia Boll with water as its connecting link. Various aspects of sanitation, drinking water supplies and causes and solutions of flooding are shown from the perspective of residents and their environment in Jakarta. The exhibition shows the influence of water on the lives of the people of Jakarta and on the material and intangible cultural heritage through images, videos, and a 3D installation.
Boll won the prestigious the Zilveren Camera 2018 award for her series Sinking Cities, Jakarta in February. The Zilveren Camera is the Dutch prize for photojournalism and documentary photography and has been awarded since 1949.
This exhibition is currently running until Friday, Dec 20 at Erasmus Huis, South Jakarta. If you’re coming this Saturday, you can also check out the Bazar Tulip for all things Dutch. Free entry, opens at 9am-4pm (Mon-Thu), 9am-2pm (Fri), 10am-1pm (Sat). Closed on Sunday and public holidays.
