TRANSCENDENCE Portrait Show

A portrait exhibition of 11 transgender people, their unique and inspiring stories as well as their desires to be made visible as proud and authentic members of the trans community in Hong Kong. This exhibition, first presented at Union Church during Pride month comes to Eaton’s Lobby and Foodhall from 20 February to 31 March 2021, is presented a second time bringing their powerful message to new and expanded audiences.

Featuring the stories of Alice, Yanki, Ming, Hong, Janice, Liam, Sho, Zephyrus, Julian, Mimi and Pinky, Transcendence is a joint production of the Association of World Citizens Hong Kong and Photographer Candy Yeung. Working with a team of professional photographers, art directors, lighting designers, stylists and makeup artists, the 11 models transform themselves in front of the camera. This process provides them the space and sense of safety to present their most self-expressed and authentic side. As the first large scale transgender photography show in Hong Kong, the organisers endeavor to probe society’s preconceived and conventional concept of gender, creating a space for the transgender community and the wider Hong Kong public to enter into dialogue.

“It is very important for anyone to be able to show to others their “True Self”. Otherwise life would be extremely difficult. “ — Mimi Wong, Producer of Award Winning Transgender Movie A Woman Is A Woman
