The world-renowned choreographer Matthew Bourne is one of the top practitioners in his field in the United Kingdom, evidenced by the multiple awards he has garnered over the years, including the “Oscars of the theatre world”, Tony Award, and the Laurence Olivier Award for a whopping eight times.
Matthew Bourne’s contemporary dance retelling of Cinderella has been performed for over 20 years, and each rerun has been highly popular, with tickets being sold out well in advance. Bourne sets the classic children’s tale in London during the Second World War, and instead of Cinderella meeting her prince, she encounters an RAF pilot and they fall passionately in love. Aside from Bourne’s masterful choreography, the show benefits from the meticulous and impactful stage and lighting design by Tony award-winner Lez Brotherston and Laurence Olivier award-winner Neil Austin, respectively. The beautiful score by Prokofiev takes the performance to another level.
