Inaugural Eaton HK Award Winner, Ophelia Jacarini, will debut her MANIFEST EPHEMERAL exhibition at Eaton HK’s independent art gallery Tomorrow Maybe, following her Hong Kong Human Rights Art Prize win in 2018. Her solo exhibition will be on display from February 6 to March 21, 2021.
MANIFEST EPHEMERAL places emphasis on the importance of brief moments via dance performance. The multi-disciplinary artist utilizes the mediums of printed photography, sculpture and video to transform fleeting instances into durable and long-lasting moments.
Jacarini’s exhibition was made possible through a month-long residency at Eaton DC supported by Eaton. The trained ballet dancer personally features in many of the ten captivating works on display. Following her artworks and solo exhibitions over the years, MANIFEST EPHEMERAL is an extensive continuation on the evolutionary study and process of figure, form and suspension of time within dance movements. During a time of global uncertainty, Ophelia Jacarini invites the public to be fully present in the certainty of the moment captured in her immersive and experiential visual art.
Ophelia’s 2018 work BLOOMING 2 was selected from five finalists by Katherine Lo, Founder and President, Eaton Workshop; Chantal Wong, Director of Culture, Eaton HK; Dirk Dalichau, Managing Director, Eaton HK; and Royce Ng, former artist in residence at Eaton HK. Jacarini received a 28-day artist residency at Eaton DC, a one-time cash award of HK$5000 and a contribution of HK$30,000 towards the production of her artwork for MANIFEST EPHEMERAL.
The HKHRAP Eaton Award exhibition is just one of the many examples that showcase Eaton’s commitment to social issues through art and culture.
