I am a Nastry Woman: Un-conference on creating change for women in this day and age
This is an un-conference aiming to explore aspects of creating social change in relation to gender and sexuality. With the HeforShe Movement, #MeToo, and progress in relation to LGBTQ rights all over the world, it seems that we are living in the best of times; however, we also witness the rise of conservatism and extreme-rightist movements in so many countries, that the work of our forerunners seems to be undone, and the wellbeing of women and LGBTQ people undermined. We need to sit down and talk, about where we are now, where are we heading, what to do next, and how we can achieve our goals.
We aim to include activists, NGO organizers, advocates, legislators, legal practitioners, artists, educators, researchers, journalists, writers, fundraisers… or anyone who has an experience and/ is starting a movement / organization / action / event aiming at changing public’s perception of gender / sexuality / body and lives of women for the better.
In an un-conference, the agenda is set by those who attend. We intend to bring change-makers from different fields together to start dialogues around problems that concerns them the most in a cozy and inclusive setting, to share experience, to brainstorm possible solutions and build a supporting network to further their work.
We have scheduled a full-day un-conference for 9th March (Sat), with a small gathering / and celebration on the night of 8th March (Fri), International Women’s Day, at Eaton House.
We envision this un-conference to accomplish the following goals:
Getting to know your allies and create synergy
Outlining the challenges faced by change-makers in Hong Kong
Listing best practices for addressing these challenges
Collecting information that may be useful for understanding the status of women and feminist efforts in different fields
