Chef and Co-Founder, MARIANA VILLALOBOS TORRES was born in Mexico City. Her family figures predominantly in her culinary passion. Parents, grand-parents, aunts, uncles and cousins would gather around the kitchen area, the heart of the house in Mexican families. Some meals can take up to a week to prepare so everyone joins in and brings their personal touch to the traditional recipes.
Mariana left Mexico in 2006 to study first in Paris and then in Nice. She started by working for busy beachfront restaurants nestled in the bays around Monaco. Two years later, a new adventure presented itself. Starting a restaurant in the beach resort of Koh Chang, Thailand.
She and her friend, JULIEN founded BARRIO BONITO. As a self taught chef, Mariana began experimenting with Mexican food on a daily basis. It didn’t take long for BARRIO BONITO’S reputation to grow beyond it’s island confines. With 6 years experience on the island, and the will to make it to Bangkok, she endorsed the project of a BARRIO BONITO taqueria in a new, modern concept of THE COMMONS, a gathering ground for specialized, quality producers. Since day one, it’s become a Bangkok favorite for those in search for innovative Mexican Cuisine.
