This month Alexander Lamont celebrates the beauty and sophistication of the decorative arts with an open door event: Craftsmanship Re-Imagined.
At Alexander Lamont’s newly opened Gallery at Warehouse 30, artisans from the British designer’s Bangkok workshops demonstrate two of his signature crafts: the art of straw marquetry inlay and eggshell lacquer.
Visitors will learn how humble rye straw is prepared, dyed to an array of colour tones and inlaid into surfaces to create beautiful pieces of furniture and wall panels that shimmer and reflect the light. The art of eggshell inlay requires skill, meditative attention and an eye for detail. Visitors will witness our lacquer artists at work as they create intricately detailed patterns on a box or a vase using tiny pieces of natural eggshell.
The event runs from Wednesday 23 March to Sunday 27 March with demonstrations from 10am-12pm and 1pm to 5pm each day. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to learn about two of the world’s most rare and precious decorative arts within the tranquil environment of Alexander Lamont’s Gallery space.
