Outpost Ubud and Nomads Giving Back! have teamed up to bring you Meaningful Movie Meetups.
Join us for socially conscious films followed by an engaging discussion and ideas sharing. You’ll make new friends from Indonesia and across the world, become better informed about social issues, and get inspired to make a difference and give back.
If you’re in the mood for some cinematic snacking, Bali Bowls & Smoothies will be ready to serve you, and there’ll be free popcorn too.
Next up… The Last Orangutan Eden
In this feature-length documentary, ecologist Chris Morgan travels to the jungles of Northern Sumatra to document the work being done to save its population of wild orangutans. Asia’s most intelligent ape once roamed across Sumatra and Java, but today, fewer than 7,000 Sumatran orangutans remain in the wild. The film cites rapid deforestation — land clearing for palm oil plantations — as the chief reason for its decline. | View the trailer here: https://youtu.be/muV4kqQ0QJo
Following the film, you’ll learn how to give back locally in Bali, non-profit organizations you can support to help rescue endangered animals in Indonesia, and share your insights during a group discussion led by our co-host, Nalom, from Getaway Camp.
About the hosts:
Nomads Giving Back! inspires nomads, expats and travelers to give back to the communities they call their home away from home. They celebrate people who are creating social impact around the world and raising awareness of the ways everyday heroes are giving back. | Website: https://nomadsgivingback.com
The Getaway Camp Bali is a locally-owned Indonesian organization leading authentic journeys through Bali. Nalom Andrew Simanjuntak created a unique experience for people to better appreciate hidden gems off the typical tourist track. A portion of your contributions are donated to non-profit organizations such as Jakarta Animal Aid Network and Sumatra Orangutan Center.
Event is free entry, though voluntary contributions are appreciated!
