Endangered turtle eggs are still legal to sell in some of the Peninsular Malaysian states, where they are considered a local delicacy. WWF and other organisation have pressured the state governments for years in changing the laws, but to no avail.
Since 2013, Lang Tengah a beautiful island near Pulau Perhentian, has been the place where the Turtle Watch is stationed each year from February till September. The watch makes sure the eggs are kept safe from poachers and has so far accomplished an 80% hatching rate! Besides helping the turtles, they also act to preserve the reefs and educate local students about the beauty of nature.
